Governor Ron DeSantis

Today in Fernandina Beach, I was proud to announce that the federal government has approved our request for an Exempted Fishing Permit, which will allow Florida to lead the way on Atlantic red snapper management. Last year, the federal government only permitted 2 days for recreational snapper fishing in the Atlantic.

Today, we are implementing a 39-day, two-phase Atlantic red snapper recreational season for Florida anglers. The Summer Season begins on May 22 to kick off Memorial Day weekend and continues through June, and the Fall Season will run on 3-day weekends in October.

Even as activists and bureaucrats try to stall this season, we will hold the line and stand up for our anglers’ right to fish. At the end of the day, no one understands Florida’s waters better than the people who fish them.
