Sarasota Man in Trouble After Firing Approximately 26 Rounds at Man Trying to Secure Dumpster for His Employer

Summary of the Probable Cause Affidavit
 
On August 15, 2026, at approximately 1:08 p.m., the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting at on 51st Street in Sarasota. Both the complainant/victim and the defendant, Riley Woiak, called 911 to report their involvement in the incident. No injuries were reported.
 
According to investigators, the victims were at the property to secure a dumpster for their employer. They entered through an unsecured gate and approached the dumpster area. One of the victims, V1, exited his vehicle and encountered Woiak, who was inside the warehouse. V1 gestured toward the dumpster to explain why they were on the property.
 
Woiak, who was shirtless and seated in a chair, reportedly grabbed a rifle, yelled at the victim to leave, and pointed the firearm at him. As V1 retreated, Woiak fired multiple rounds at him and the vehicle, which contained the other two victims, V2 and V3. The victims fled the property as additional shots were fired. All three victims told investigators they feared for their lives.
 
Woiak told deputies that he feared for his life and retrieved an AR-style rifle. He initially fired warning shots into the air before firing at V1 and the vehicle. Woiak said he believed V1 might be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and posed a threat. He admitted to firing an entire magazine, or close to it, and called 911 after the shooting.
 
Surveillance video captured audio of yelling followed by gunfire, a pause, and then additional gunfire. Investigators determined that approximately 26 rounds were fired.
