In the state of Florida, a person must be at least 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft (PWC).
Imagine the surprise of the Sarasota Police Marine Patrol Unit when they stopped an 8-year-old boy who was riding a PWC off the coast of Lido Key on a busy weekend with rough currents.
It’s illegal for to allow a person under 14 years of age to operate a personal watercraft and it’s a second-degree misdemeanor. As a result, the father of the boy will have to appear in court.
