The Bradenton Police Department is investigating the drowning death of a four-year-old that occurred on Saturday night during a pool party at 302 26th Ave W in the Kendall Ridge Apartment Complex.

Officers were dispatched to the apartment complex at 9:10 p.m. and arrived on the scene within three minutes. They began CPR immediately, and EMS transported the child to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

According to detectives, a large group of people, including the child’s family, was present at the party. The child was swimming when she slipped underwater. The investigation indicates that the child was at the bottom of the pool for several minutes before she was discovered.

The child’s mother, Rosette Pierrecius, 32, who was among those at the party, was arrested Sunday morning on a charge of Child Neglect Causing Great Bodily Harm. The investigation is ongoing.

We grieve along with the community on the tragic loss of a child. Sadly, drowning is the leading cause of death in America among children one to four, and drownings can happen even with many adults present. Even when lifeguards are present, we cannot emphasize strongly enough the importance of a dedicated “water watcher” to help keep our children safe.
