SCSO is offering 2 free Citizen Firearms Education classes on January

Are you interested in learning about firearm safety? This class may be for you!
SCSO is offering 2 free Citizen Firearms Education classes on January 23rd and 30th to eligible Sarasota County residents. This class will be conducted by the SCSO Training Staff from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the SCSO Gun Range.
Eligible applicants must submit to (and complete) a background investigation conducted by SCSO. As forms are received, applicants will be contacted by an SCSO Training Staff member to confirm a spot – please do not call the sheriff’s office to inquire about the status or availability.
Eligibility requirements:
• Be a permanent Sarasota County resident
• Be at least 21 years of age
• Possess a valid FL driver’s license or government ID
• Be able to pass an SCSO background check
• Bring your own firearm, 2 magazines, and a holster
9mm ammunition will be provided for students using a 9mm firearm. Students using other caliber firearms will be required to bring their own ammunition. (150 rounds of ammunition will be required for the class).
This course is designed for handguns only; no long guns will be permitted. This class is intended for those new to firearms and looking for a course to help build fundamental knowledge on firearm safety.
