On Sept. 12, the Venice City Council approved listing 721 Myrtle Ave. in the Local Register of Historic Resources. Known as the Edgewood Cottage, this home was built in 1930 after the Florida Land Bust halted almost all development. It is a vernacular wood-framed cottage that represents the eclectic styles of architecture allowed in the Edgewood neighborhood.
With the listing of Edgewood Cottage, the Local Register of Historic Resources now has 11 properties. “We’re excited to see a property in Edgewood finally make it in the Local Register,” said Harry Klinkhamer, Historical Resources Manager for the City of Venice.

The owners of Edgewood Cottage were thrilled to hear the good news. “Our family is proud to live in such a special home that has been preserved for generations to come. To make it to the Venice Register of Historical Resources is an honor, and we will continue to maintain Edgewood Cottage as a beautiful part of this amazing City on the Gulf,” said owner Stephanie Granat.

A plaque unveiling for the home will take place at a future date.
