300 gallon wastewater spill in Sarasota at lift station 39

 

Pursuant to Section 403.077, F.S., the Department of Environmental Protection has received the following Public Notice of Pollution for a reportable release. All information displayed was submitted by the reporting party.

Incident Description
City crews discovered a contractor working in the City drilled a 2″ conduit through a 10″ sewer main at the intersection of Hawthorne Street and Jefferson Avenue. Lift Station 39 was shut down and tankers were used to transfer flow until the main was repaired. Approximately 300 gallons of wastewater was discharged from the site and entered a storm water collection basin. Crews were unable to recover any of the spill. The main was repaired and Lift Station 39 was returned to service. The spill site was treated with lime, hosed down and vacuumed up using the VAC truck per City protocols. Samples will be collected.
