Venice: Teachers and children quarantined after a child contracts the COVID virus

by Francesco Abbruzzion, Publisher, The Scoop

I was contacted by an employee at the YMCA in Venice, that was concerned about an individual contracting the COVID.  I assumed she was referring to the communication that was sent out a few days ago, notifying the public about the an employee contracting the virus.   The employee indicated to me that it was a child in the day care program and that individuals had some concerns about testing and quarantining individuals.   So, I contacted Peter with Sky to validate some of the concerns.

The incident occurred at the PGT Early Learning Center.  If I recall correctly, it is a day care that PGT put primarily for the employees at PGT.   SKY did receive a notice yesterday that a child tested positive for COVID.  The child has not been at the center for a week and is in quarantine.  Additionally two teachers and the other kids in the class have been quarantined and the facility was thoroughly cleaned.

I am putting this out because there appears to be a great deal of concern about the situation and some inaccurate information.  So, I am hoping this will shut down the rumor mill, by putting out a direct communication from SKY.

Yesterday we received notice from a parent that a child tested positive for COVID-19 at our PGT Early Learning Center near the PGT Innovations campus. The child is in quarantine and had not been in the center since last week. Per our instructions from the Sarasota County Health Department we have also quarantined the children from the classroom and notified all families with children enrolled at the Center. We have quarantined two teachers as well. In addition, we conducted a thorough disinfection of the classroom and center. Safety of our staff and children is our critical concern. We will continue our protocols of temperature checks of all staff and children, symptom monitoring, and enhanced cleaning and disinfection.
