Democrat Gubernatorial Hopeful Likens Gov. Ron DeSantis to Hitler

Democrat gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried compared Governor Ron DeSantis (R) to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler during an interview Friday.

 

Fried, Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner, doubled down when asked if she regretted characterizing DeSantis as an authoritarian “dictator.”

“Not at all,” Fried said on Florida Public Radio’s “The Florida Roundup.”

 

“Growing up in Miami, and having neighbors that were Cubans, hearing stories of so many of our Floridians who have left dictatorships, and socialism, and communist countries, and coming here to the state of Florida for capitalism, for open opportunities to succeed.”

 

 

“He is doing everything possible to take away power from local governments, taking away people’s ability to protest, making it harder to vote, talking about, you know, banning books. That’s what dictators do. Instead of listening and trying to govern with the people, he is trying to govern over the people,” Fried continued.

 

“You know, I’m sorry — I’m a student of history too. I saw the rise of Hitler. I’ve learned of those stories,” she added.

 

The host interrupted to ask if Fried was comparing DeSantis to Hitler.

“In a lot of ways, yes,” Fried replied. “I have studied Hitler and how he got to power, you know, wanting his own militia and having his own militia.”

 

Fried is referring to DeSantis’ proposal reestablish a World War II-era civilian military force that he – not the Pentagon – would control to assist the Sunshine State’s National Guard.

 

DeSantis has been a vocal critic of Joe Biden’s unconstitutional vaccine mandate, critical race theory agenda, and statewide COVID restrictions that have been implemented in other blue states.

 

In fact, DeSantis poked fun at the numerous Democrat politicians who’ve fled their lockdown states to vacation in Florida in recent weeks, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.)

 

“If I had a dollar for every lockdown politician who decided to escape to Florida over the last two years, I’d be a pretty doggone wealthy man, let me tell you,” DeSantis joked earlier this month. “I mean, Congress people, mayors, governors, I mean you name it.”
