City of Sarasota, FL:  The Ringling Causeway Bridge light display will change in recognition of Pride Month tomorrow night after the City Commission fulfilled a requirement by the Florida Department of Transportation and passed a resolution supporting the temporary color scheme. The colors will change Tuesday, June 22 to Monday, June 28.

The City Commission unanimously passed the resolution tonight expressing broad community interest for the lighting change, as required by FDOT, which maintains the Ringling Bridge.

The lighting configuration will be red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.

With the City Commission on summer break and its next regular meeting scheduled July 6, Mayor Hagen Brody called a special meeting to approve the resolution during Pride Month.

“I’d like to thank the City Commission for standing with the LGBTQ community and unanimously passing this resolution,” said Mayor Brody.  “Starting Tuesday night, the lights will display pride colors to show our LGBTQ residents and visitors that we as a city appreciate, welcome and embrace diversity.”

FDOT replaced the aging bridge lights in September 2019 with LED lights. FDOT’s statewide bridge lighting policy limits lighting schemes to the recognition, commemoration, or promotion of federal or state holidays or celebrations.  Special requests can include events of broad community interest and significance approved by a local government.
