The Legacy Trail connector will add almost four additional miles of trail joining The Legacy Trail and the City of North Port.

With the majority of the construction of the Legacy Trail Extension Project expected to occur this year, construction, including asphalt work, along the entire northern extension is well underway. Segment 1 is anticipated to be the first portion completed as early as summer 2021.

 

County staff along with Kimley-Horn and Associates and Jon F. Swift Construction have continued their efforts to design and build The Legacy Trail Extension and the North Port Connector. Design work is ongoing for both the North Port Connector and the Pompano Avenue Trailhead.

 

The three trailheads as part of The Legacy Trail northern extension will be named as follows:

  • Ashton Trailhead, 4301 Ashton Road
  • Sarasota Springs Trailhead, 4012 Webber St.
  • Pompano Trailhead, 601 S. Pompano Ave.
