The City of North Port invites the community to enjoy a special Fireworks-only display for Independence Day. To adhere to CDC guidelines, the event plan for the annual Freedom Festival, presented by American Irrigation, has been amended to a fireworks show that will be launched from the North Port High School site used for last year’s physically distanced event.
Attendees will be invited to park in the lots at North Port High School, Heron Creek Middle School, and at Butler Park. Parking will open at 6:00 p.m. and mobile food vendors will be available on site. Attendees are invited to view the show from their vehicles or parking spaces. Individuals will also be able to bring their chairs or blankets to claim physically distanced spaces designated on the grass at the Butler Park fields.
Seating and parking are available on a first come, first serve basis and the high-flying fireworks show by Garden State Fireworks will start at 9:00 p.m. Those who prefer to enjoy the show from home will be able to stream it on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/NorthPortParksAndRec.
Attendees can enjoy the music for the show by tuning in to WKDW 97.5 FM. The display is expected to end around 9:30 p.m.
Although it is uncertain what physical distancing and sanitation protocols will still be in effect at that time, the following safety precautions are currently planned:
• Attendees will be asked to practice good physical distancing while in attendance
• Masks are strongly encouraged when proper physical distancing isn’t possible
• No tailgating, alcohol, personal fireworks, or sparklers will be permitted
• The green spaces at the North Port High School stadium and Heron Creek Middle School will remain closed to public gatherings
• Restroom and handwashing facilities will be made available at all three parking lots
• People who are feeling ill are asked to remain home.
