Breslin named as new principal at Venice HS – SNN

SARASOTA COUNTY, April 12, 2021 – Sarasota County Schools is pleased to announce that Dr. Laurie Breslin – the current Principal of Sarasota Middle School – has been appointed as the new Principal of Venice High School in Venice.
 
“Dr. Breslin has accomplished great work at Sarasota Middle and will be a dynamic addition to the Venice High team,” commented Steve Cantees, executive director of Secondary Schools. “She fosters a culture of growth and innovation at all of the school communities where she has served and led. I know Dr. Breslin will bring that same focus and energy to Venice High to guide the students and school-based team members to new levels of success.”
 
“It has been an immense joy to serve as the Principal of Sarasota Middle School,” said Breslin. “The Panther community will always hold a special place in my heart. I truly believe that collaboration is the most effective way to strengthen and nourish the educational experience for our children. I look forward to getting to know the Venice High community and helping each member – student, teacher, and staff member alike – invest in their future.”
 
Dr. Laurie Breslin received her bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Florida, her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Florida, and her educational specialist degree in Educational Technology from the University of Florida. She received her educational doctorate in Teaching & Learning from Argosy University. Before assuming her principalship at Sarasota Middle School, Dr. Breslin served as an assistant principal at Booker High School. Prior to joining the Sarasota County Schools family, she served with Manatee County Schools as an assistant principal, a high school English teacher, a Reading teacher, and an Advanced Placement English teacher. Dr. Breslin also served as a middle school English teacher in Berea, Kentucky. In addition to her work in supporting school improvement, Dr. Laurie Breslin has co-authored a book titled Constructing a Professional Learning Network published by Corwin Press.
 
Dr. Breslin will begin her new role this summer at the end of the 2020-21 school year.
