North Port teen bicycle was struck, as he rode to school this morning

From the mother of the child that was hit: Katrina McKinnell This was my son who was hit. He has a broken collar bone and may have to have surgery. He was hit dead center by the vehicle. The driver then swerved to go around him after hitting him. There is NO WAY you don’t know you hit someone. And my son had the right of way!

Please remember that with the time change it’s darker earlier out there. This includes school zones and bus stops. We also need some help here:

Just before 7am Thursday morning a 15 yr. old student, on his was to school, was knocked off his bicycle while crossing at the intersection of Price Blvd. / Sumter Blvd.. The vehicle involved was described only as a dark colored S.U.V and is NOT likely to have any damage to it. The front tire of the bike was struck, causing the juvenile to fall down and sustain what appeared to be minor injuries. It is possible the driver may not have been aware of what occurred as it was dark. Other than the original witness that was interviewed on scene, if anyone saw this event and has pertinent vehicle / tag information, please contact Ofc. Ryan Crosby at 941-429-7300.
