Sarasota Sheriff warns about a possible phone scam involving a caller claiming to be a sergeant with thier agency

This week several citizens called to report a possible phone scam involving a caller claiming to be a sergeant with our agency. In each incident, the caller claimed to be “Sergeant Mark Stone” and advised the victims had bench warrants for their arrests. The number used was 941.861.5800. Please know that no member of our agency will EVER call and demand any sort of payment over the phone. If you receive a call like this, please contact our non-emergency line at 941.316.1201. Calls like these are SCAMS. Please be aware.
