North Port Fire
Quick Action, Successful Rescue
North Port Fire Rescue & northportpd responded to two elderly women that found themselves in a life-threatening situation after their vehicle went through a fence and into a nearby pond in the 17000 block of Tamiami Trail. The vehicle was beginning to sink, and the women were trapped inside and unable to get out.
A nearby lawn crew witnessed the incident, immediately called 911, and began cutting a path through the trees to give firefighters access.
Station 82 and 81 B Shift crews arrived and swam through the pond to reach the vehicle, pulling both women to safety just as the water was cresting the dashboard.
Thankfully, neither woman was injured.
There were no obvious tire marks, and the vehicle had gone underneath the fence. Had the lawn crew not seen what happened, the outcome could have been very different.
We’re grateful for their quick thinking and immediate action. Seconds truly mattered.
Huge thank you to the Walmart Facility Services for your amazing support!
