Maurice McCary, 35, is no longer on the run. He was arrested today in Albany, Georgia, after fleeing the scene of a shooting in Manatee County that left one man dead and another injured on March 8, 2026.
 
After nearly 4 months of eluding arrest, local law enforcement found him hiding under a bed before taking him into custody. The arrest occurred following a tip about his location.
 
McCary will be extradited to Manatee County later.

The Florida Sheriff’s Association, Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program (CAAP), is now offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the location, arrest, and prosecution of Maurice McCary, 35, of Bradenton. McCary is wanted in connection with the March 8, 2026, fatal shooting of 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes and the non-fatal shooting of 22-year-old De’Ryan Lopez.
 
With this additional contribution, the combined total reward now stands at $19,500, funded through the multiple partnering organizations below.
 
Up to $5,000 through the Florida Sheriff’s Association, Criminal Apprehension Assistance Program (CAAP)
Up to $5,000 through the Gold Star Club of Manatee County
Up to $3,000 through Manatee County Crime Stoppers if the information leads to an arrest*
 
An enhanced reward of up to $6,500 through the Florida Association of Crime Stoppers (FACS), in partnership with the Florida Office of the Attorney General.* (The enhanced FACS reward is available through June 30, 2026. Tips must be submitted through the Crime Stoppers program to qualify for any reward funds.)
