⚠️ Around 1:16 p.m. today, Sunday, April 19, Venice FL Fire Rescue responded to a call for a boat fire in the area of the Marina Park Boat Ramp near the Historic Venice Train Depot and the Intracoastal Waterway.

Firefighters arrived to find a family of four at the boat ramp. A 5-year-old boy and a 41-year-old female both had suffered serious burns in what the female called an “explosion” onboard the vessel. The child was flown by Bayflite helicopter to a Tampa hospital; the female was taken by ambulance to SMH. A 15-year-old boy and a male in his 40s were not injured.

The inboard/outboard vessel, which had floated down the Intracoastal, was recovered by another boater and towed to the boat ramp. The Venice Police Department also assisted.

The cause of the fire, which was out when the boat was recovered, is undetermined at this time. FWC will investigate. The boat ramp is open to the public.
