As part of the City of Venice Capital Improvement Program, the Intracoastal Second Force Main Project adds a redundant wastewater force main and gravity sewer system to safely convey wastewater from Venice island to the City’s mainland facilities. The new force main is installed and approved for connection to the existing system along Florida Street, just south of E. Venice Ave.
To complete the connection, the existing force main must be drained and plugged, and seven wastewater lift stations must be temporarily shut down. During this period, tanker truck tractor-trailers will be staged at each lift station to pump and haul wastewater for approximately four hours. This work must be performed overnight, when sewer flows are lowest, to reduce the risk of backups or spills.
Residents may notice truck idling noise, backup alarms, equipment setup, and work lighting during the operation. We apologize for any inconvenience and will work to minimize impacts as much as possible.
Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 7, at 10:30 p.m. and is expected to take approximately five hours. The lift stations are expected to be back online by about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, and the tanker trucks will leave shortly afterward. April 8-9 is reserved as the rain date.
Trucks will be staged within the road right-of-way near lift stations. Please drive slowly, use caution, and watch for workers. Motorists should follow all posted traffic signs.
Thank you in advance for your patience as we continue to maintain and upgrade our infrastructure and facilities to preserve the quality of life for the City of Venice citizens, businesses, and visitors.
