SARASOTA COUNTY – Speakers from local, state, and federal agencies will lead the Community Conversation: Hurricane Preparedness on Saturday, April 11, hosted by Sarasota County at Riverview High School, 1 Ram Way, Sarasota.
Speakers will share vital information on disaster preparedness, hurricane season forecasts, and insights from previous seasons. Speakers include:
Sandra Tapfumaneyi, Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief.
Kevin Guthrie, Florida Division of Emergency Management Director.
Daniel Brown, National Hurricane Center Hurricane Specialist Unit Branch Chief.
More information on the speakers can be found at scgov.net/CommunityConversations. The program will be moderated by Sarasota County Emergency Services Director Rich Collins.
Doors open for the Community Conversation at 9 a.m. for attendees to visit with exhibitors, and presentations will begin at 10 a.m. Attendees will pass through the school security system upon arrival.
“This event, now in its second year, is another excellent opportunity for residents to learn more and hear directly from experts about how our community can be ready together this hurricane season,” said Tapfumaneyi. “Attendees can get their questions answered, learn more about being prepared, and find more resources all in one place.”
In addition to the discussion, attendees will be able to speak with representatives from municipalities and local, state, and federal organizations at various booths before, during, and after the event.
The event is free to attend, but registration is appreciated. Participating partners in this event include Sarasota County departments, Resilient SRQ, the National Hurricane Center, Florida Division of Emergency Management, National Weather Service – Tampa Bay, the cities of Sarasota, Venice, and North Port, along with many federal, state, and local agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations.
Attendees may submit questions for speakers as part of the registration process. Register and learn more at scgov.net/CommunityConversations.
