SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Sarasota County’s Chemical Collection Center, 250 S. Jackson Road, Venice, will reopen March 30 after undergoing significant facility improvements. The facility was forced to close because of damage caused by Hurricane Ian in September 2022.

The center serves residents by collecting household chemicals, paint, oil, fuel, and other hazardous materials.

The upgraded facility helps protect Solid Waste workers from exposure, reduces the risk of collection truck fires caused by chemical reactions, preserves landfill capacity and integrity, and supports a cleaner environment by discouraging improper disposal. Expanded hours, aligned with other Solid Waste facilities, and a larger footprint are expected to better serve south county residents.

At the time of its closure, Sarasota’s Chemical Collection Program collected nearly 1 million pounds of hazardous waste annually from approximately 16,000 residents and businesses.

Regular disposal hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
