The morning of March 6, a Sarasota Police officer responded to a call for a stolen vehicle near Barrington Circle. Within 20 minutes, the Real-Time Operations Center determined the vehicle was traveling northbound on Tuttle Avenue near Fruitville Road.
A crime analyst working in the ROC alerted officers allowing for a nearby officer to initiate a traffic stop. However, the stolen car accelerated and began driving into oncoming traffic.
An unmarked unit saw the car run through a red light and followed at a distance. The officer then observed the driver turn onto Prudence Drive before parking the car. The driver, described as a white male, wearing a white shirt with a ponytail fled on foot over a fence.
Responding units were alerted by a homeowner he saw an unknown man matching the description of the suspect enter his tool shed. Community Action Team and K-9 Unit responded prompting the man to surrender and arresting Guy T. D’Agostino, 19, of Casselberry.
After his arrest, officers traced his steps and found a wallet and crossbody bag with a white powdered substance inside that tested positive for fentanyl.
D’Agostino was arrested and is facing three felony charges and one misdemeanor charge:
Motor vehicle theft (felony)
* Fleeing and eluding with disregard for safety (felony)
* Possession of a Controlled Substance, fentanyl (felony)
* Operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license (misdemeanor)
Officers were able to leverage the Real-Time Operations Center, ROC, to help officers on the ground recover a stolen car within less than an hour.
