Sarasota Police enforce Jet Ski rentals on Lido Beach

With the return of warmer weather, our Marine Patrol has stepped up enforcement on local waterways to help ensure beachgoers and boaters alike enjoy the water safely.
 
Renting a personal watercraft, or Jet Ski, may seem like a fun way to explore our waterways. However, if you’re not careful about who you rent from, it can come with serious risks. Unlicensed operators often offer prices that seem too good to be true, often skipping safety checks, proper insurance and required permits.
 
Operating a personal watercraft or Jet Ski rental business in the City of Sarasota without the proper commercial license and insurance is illegal and reckless. Liveries that operate in Florida without a valid Livery Operator Permit are in violation of section 327.54(2), Florida Statutes, which is a first degree misdemeanor subject to a $1,000 fine. (s.775.083, F.S.).
