Sarasota Police officers rescued two people Friday, Feb. 20, after a fire started in the 2200 block of North Osprey Avenue just after 10 p.m.

When Sarasota Police officers arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Energized power lines started to come down and transformers malfunctioned and created additional hazards around the home. A man and woman, both adults, were pulled from inside the home by Sarasota Police officers. Both people sustained minor injuries.

“Sarasota Police officers don’t just enforce the law, they save lives,” said Sarasota Police Chief Rex Troche When others are running out, our officers are running in. That’s the commitment they make to this community every single day. I’m incredibly proud of their courage and their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to protect others,” said Chief Troche.

Once the scene was secured, firefighters with the Sarasota County Fire Department extinguished the fire. The cause remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
