Dog rescued from Port Charlotte house fire Tuesday night

At 8:44 p.m., Charlotte County Fire & EMS was dispatched to Coulton Avenue for a residential structure fire after reports of a fire inside the home with a dog still inside.
When crews arrived, the front door was open and light smoke was visible coming from the home. Firefighters located one dog inside the residence. Once the dog was safely removed, crews used the pet oxygen masks carried on our units to provide emergency care. The oxygen helps flush smoke from the lungs and improves breathing after smoke inhalation. The dog was treated on scene and then transported by a resident to an open veterinary clinic for further evaluation.
Two individuals were evaluated and declined transport. The fire was determined to be accidental and originated in the kitchen. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family displaced by the fire.
