Over the past three days 26% of all arrest in Sarasota County have been DUI arrest, with one resulting in two deaths

Since December 13, 2025, there have been 50 arrests, 13 of which were DUI-related—meaning 26% of all arrests involved driving under the influence. Of those 13 DUI arrests, one resulted in a hit-and-run, and another tragically resulted in two deaths.
When I was 18, I came upon an accident involving friends of mine at the corner of Venice Avenue and 41st Street. The driver had been drinking at a party I was attending, and the crash resulted in the death of our friend. It was a life-changing moment for me. From that day forward, I made a commitment never to drive after even a single sip of alcohol.
With friends to call, rides on demand, and services like Uber readily available, there is no reason for anyone to drive under the influence. Let’s think twice before drinking and driving this holiday season. – Francesco Abbruzzino
