Public Meeting to be held Nov. 12 for Blackburn Point Bridge Project Development and Environment Study

SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County invites the community to learn about and provide feedback on the Blackburn Point Bridge Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025.

 

County staff and members of the study team will be available to answer questions and discuss the project from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Church of the Holy Spirit, 129 Tamiami Trail, Osprey. A presentation sharing the revisions to the preliminary design plan options will begin at 5:15 p.m.

 

The Blackburn Point Bridge in Osprey is undergoing a study using Florida Department of Transportation guidelines to determine a reasonable and feasible alternative for the bridge replacement. The replacement is being evaluated due to deficiencies, safety, and for the possible incorporation of bicycle, pedestrian, and marine traffic in addition to vehicle traffic in the design. The study will evaluate impacts on air and water quality, wildlife, wetlands, and other natural resources, as well as potential impacts to the surrounding communities, including costs and potential economic benefits.
