Suncoast: Head on crash this morning leads to two deaths

At 7:07 a.m., crews were dispatched to SR 31 and Bermont Rd for a head-on collision. As of 8:30 a.m., SR 31 south of Bermont is closed. The intersection at SR 31 and Bermont is still open in other directions. This will remain closed while crews are still on scene and the Florida Highway Patrol continues their investigation.

One of our off-duty firefighters was first on scene and immediately stopped to help until responding crews arrived. Engine 9 arrived to find two vehicles with significant front-end damage.

Sadly, two individuals did not survive this accident. Our thoughts are with their families, friends, and all affected.

Please avoid the area as the investigation continues and drive with caution.
