A Punta Gorda man was arrested on multiple felony charges including firing a gun into an occupied Punta Gorda home.
At approximately 5:00 a.m. on May 7, 2025, deputies responded to reports of shots being fired into an occupied residence on the 15000 block of Orangeade Drive in Punta Gorda. Thankfully no injuries were reported, however, the Major Crimes and Forensics Units were called out to conduct an investigation. Projectiles were discovered in the home and shell casings were found in the road in front of the home.
On May 8, 2025, Charlotte County detectives were contacted by Manatee County deputies in regard to a tip they received that a suspect later identified as Uriah Keyes (03/05/1993) was responsible for the shooting. Keyes was arrested by Manatee County detectives for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and transported to the Manatee County Jail.
After further communication with Manatee County, enough evidence was gathered for a warrant for the arrest of Keyes for the Punta Gorda shooting. Keyes had been directly linked to a resident in the home with whom he was upset for past conflicts.
“Thanks to the collaborative efforts of law enforcement this individual was in handcuffs less than 24 hours after the shooting occurred. I would like to thank MCSO for their vital part in bringing this suspect to justice and for their helpful communication with my team. It is truly a miracle no one was hurt by his reckless actions. Clearly, he has proven he is incapable of learning his lesson after his blatant disregard for human life. Charlotte County can rest easy knowing he is behind bars where he belongs.”
– Sheriff Bill Prummell
Keyes, who was just released from the Department of Corrections in December of 2024, is currently being held at the Manatee County Jail for multiple felony charges from both Charlotte and Manatee County.
