Venice man involved in the Friday night shooting is identified

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has arrested Micah Redding (DOB: 02/12/2002) for attempted homicide following a shooting that occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m., Friday, in the area of Fallow Road and E. Baffin Drive in Venice. On arrival, deputies located one female victim who was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital by Bayflight.
Investigators determined the victim was shot during a dispute that occurred at a residence. Redding left in a vehicle prior to the arrival of deputies and crashed in the area of mile marker 198 on I-75 northbound. The SCSO Aviation Section assisted in locating Redding who had run from the crash and was ultimately taken into custody. The sheriff’s office Emergency Response Team later located evidence believed to be linked to the crime.

This is believed to be an isolated incident, and there is no additional cause for concern in the community.
