City of North Port Celebrates Small Business Saturday with a Flourishing Local Economy

CITY OF NORTH PORT, FL – The City of North Port invites residents and visitors to join in celebrating Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30, 2024. This national day is dedicated to supporting local retailers and recognizing the vital role small businesses play in strengthening the community and economy.
With 286 new businesses launched in Fiscal Year 2023-24 and a four percent year-over-year growth in new businesses, North Port continues to thrive as a vibrant hub of opportunity. North Port’s local businesses, from one-of-a-kind boutiques to family-owned retailers, make the City a unique shopping destination while keeping tax dollars within the community.

Highlights:
- Support Local Retailers: Residents are encouraged to visit North Port’s vibrant businesses, including local favorites like Flip Flop Shops-North Port and Urban Culture Boutique, for unique gifts and quality products. The past fiscal year saw a 20 percent growth in commercial ventures in our city, with 26 percent of new businesses opening in commercial spaces.
- Community Impact: Shopping locally strengthens the community by boosting the local economy, creating jobs and supporting local entrepreneurs.
- Social Media Campaign: The City has been promoting Small Business Saturday throughout November with posts highlighting local businesses, celebrating small business success stories, and encouraging residents to #ShopSmall and #ShopLocal.
- Unique Shopping Options: Residents are encouraged to explore North Port’s unique local retailers for one-of-a-kind finds that keep tax dollars in the community.
“Small businesses are the backbone of North Port’s economy and critical to our community’s growth and success,” said Alaina Ray, Director of the City’s Development Services Department. “By shopping locally, residents help build a stronger North Port, supporting our local tax base, increasing job opportunities and creating a vibrant city for all.”
Small Business Saturday was founded by American Express in 2010 and is co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Now in its 14th year, Small Business Saturday encourages consumers across the country to support nearly 32 million independent businesses and retailers. The City of North Port is proud to join in this national movement, celebrating the local businesses that contribute to the City’s success.
