On Monday, Sarasota County Public Utilities addressed three separate spills

5651 Longwood Run Boulevard – A contractor damaged a six-inch force main, causing a spill that staff contained on-site. Approximately 10,500 gallons of wastewater were spilled, and approximately 10,500 gallons were recovered from the surrounding site. State watch will be notified. No sampling is necessary. An incident report will be made for reimbursement.
488 Firebush Drive – Staff responded to a report of a wastewater spill and determined once on-site that a four-inch force main had been damaged. Crews were able to stop the leak. Approximately 2,100 gallons of wastewater spilled, and approximately 10,000 gallons were recovered from a mixture of wastewater and stormwater from the surrounding site. Sampling will be necessary. Staff is still evaluating what caused the crack.
4754 Clark Road and Sawyer Loop Road – A contractor damaged a six-inch force main, causing a spill that staff contained on site. Approximately 14,000 gallons of wastewater spilled, and approximately 12,000 gallons were recovered from the surrounding site. No sampling is necessary. Public Utilities will be filing a claim with risk management for reimbursement from the contractor.
Cleanup and notifications for each of these spills are proceeding per protocol. No stormwater structure or surface waters were impacted during any of these events.
