Sarasota Police arrest a man at Selby Library, for making terroristic threats

10:30 p.m. UPDATE: The scene is now clear. Sarasota Police initially responded to a call for an individual at the library claiming to have explosive materials in his backpack and making threats to harm others.

The building was safely evacuated, and officers were able to take the suspect into custody.
The Sarasota Police Department’s Explosive Materials Unit (EMU) responded to investigate the backpack and any items inside it. The EMU determined the backpack was free of any explosive devices.
The area is deemed safe, and the public is not in danger. No one was injured in this incident.
The suspect, Todd Williams, 67, was placed into custody for making terroristic threats and transported to the Sarasota County Jail.
