Venice council member sounds the alarm after victors noted seaweed and branches (debris) was on the beach and it is a bit unwelcoming

Hi James and Ricky,
I was at the Shark Tooth Festival over the weekend when a couple stopped me and said that they found the debris on the beaches to be unwelcoming to visitors.
So, to check it out, I walked the beach on Sunday from Brohard Park to the first rock outcropping at Casperson and there was quite a bit of seaweed. In addition, there were several fairly large branches and even a palm tree stump or two.
Not sure the debris level on all the other beaches.
The couple mentioned that the Sarasota beaches are “raked” by machine on a periodic basis. My understanding is that Sarasota County is maintaining our beaches. If this is correct, who is tasked with alerting them that something is needed?
Thanks much,
Joan
