A portion of Myakka Road will be closed to road traffic due to unsafe conditions beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14. The closure follows an engineering report Sarasota County Public Works received Wednesday, Feb. 14, identifying conditions of three large culverts under Myakka Road (0.44mi north of Clay Gully Road) that are deteriorated to a point they are no longer safe for vehicles traveling on the road.
The culvert crossing consists of three corrugated steel plate pipes with each pipe having a measured span length of approximately 12 feet. The visual inspection of the culvert by engineers revealed severe structural deterioration. Road traffic on Myakka Road between Hancock Road and Clay Gully Road will be closed over the pipe culvert crossing because of the unsafe conditions.
