What a mess the City of Venice mayor and fellow council member have made, allowing fast food restaurants on the island

Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC

Good morning, Frankie,

I just wanted to update you because your base really stepped up and sent in emails.

The people that are supposed to represent us at city hall are playing like the big boys.  Changing the rules.  What a mess Nick (the mayor) has made with a simple Advisory Board procedure with Rachel Frank (council member) joining in.  And Kelly Fernandez (city attorney) staying silent as they break protocol and cheat on who they place on this bogus board.  And it is bogus so, I don’t care.

But fast food joints? Nope.   Have a good weekend.   Tommye

There has been a significant public outcry from the community about placing fast-food restaurants with a drive-thru just before Circus Bridge or anywhere on the island.

The mistake of allowing fast-food restaurants with drive-thru changes is in the new LDRs.  Let’s blame Kinley-Horn, the perfect scapegoat.  It’s funny how that mistake dovetails with a deal in the works at the old Circus area for a hotel.   The city agrees to remove the Edge and West Venice District LDR error but not precisely the 41 Trail District error.  Can you imagine the Circus bridge going up, and you can only turn right?  The City has to do better than the argument that there are banks, a dry cleaner, and Obie’s sandwiches on the island that are equal to Chick-fil-A on the island, as well. I think not.

So, my thought is that a core group of city hall members are pushing the future tenant to get going on his hotel at the old circus grounds. You’ve upped his lease from $100,000 to $300,000 this year to get him to move forward.  But, have you made a promise to him to allow a fast-food franchise in that area for him to make the hotel a reality?  If so, are you making a promise that you might not be able to keep.

In the words of the Former late President Bush, “Not gonna do it. It wouldn’t be prudent.”  Well, your constituents aren’t gonna let you do it, not at this juncture.
