Venice Police warn of scam involving individuals portraying themselves as being with the VPD

Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC

BE SCAM AWARE – VPD has been notified by three residents of a renewed round of SCAM calls from an individual purporting to be a VPD detective demanding money or gift card purchases to cancel a warrant with potential arrest. We are glad to report that so far these citizens calling are calling us for notification only and no one has reported a loss to this SCAM in this new round. Knowledge is power! Please tell your friends, family, and neighbors that law enforcement would NEVER demand money, gift cards, bitcoin, or other forms of payment to cancel criminal or traffic charges, or help you avoid charges or warrants. If in doubt, hang up and call the police department to verify a suspicious contact. VPD non-emergency # (941)486-2444.
