North Port Fire respond to a structure fire at the North Port Rehabilitation Center

North Port firefighters were dispatched to North Port Rehabilitation for a fire in one of the patient rooms. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an extinguished fire in the bed of one of the patients, and that person experienced severe burn injuries. The patient, an adult male, was transported by air to a medical facility for further treatment and evaluation. A second patient who was in the same room was evaluated but was not transported. All other patients in the building were sheltered in place. Firefighters ventilated the structure, and the State Fire Marshal was contacted. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
