“No Swim” Advisory at Caspersen’s and Siesta Key Beach, due to high levels of bacteria
Francesco Abbruzzino, The Uncensored Report, LLC
Caspersen Beach in Venice and Siesta Key Beach have been issued a no swim advisory, due to high levels of enteric bacteria (enterococci).
The amount of enterococcus bacteria found during routine weekly water quality testing, were outside acceptable limits. The beach remains open; however, wading, swimming and water recreation is not recommended as long as there is an advisory in place.
Enterococcus bacteria comes from a variety of natural and human-made sources. These include pet waste, livestock, birds, wildlife (land-dwelling and marine), stormwater runoff, or human sewage from failed septic systems and sewage spills.
