(September 26, 2023)- In July of 2022, the City of Cape Coral experienced a rash of commercial burglaries. During the course of the investigation, officers developed Aaron Michael Moench, as a suspect. These crimes were documented under Cape Coral Crime Reports 22-016134, 22-016135, 22-016138, 22-016150 and 22-016159.

Based on the information obtained, detectives within the Cape Coral Police Department Property Crimes Unit conducted an operation in an attempt to catch Moench in the act of another burglary. As detectives surveilled Moench, Moench was caught in the act of committing a burglary at a hardware store in Fort Myers. FMPD was notified and responded. PCU Detectives assisted FMPD officers with capturing Moench.

CCPD Detectives were able to connect Moench to multiple smash and grab burglaries after he bonded out of jail. Moench fled the area before detectives could locate him and charge him with the additional burglaries. It was later determined that Moench was also a suspect in smash and grab burglaries within Sarasota County.

Warrants were submitted for Moench’s arrest, which were approved by the State Attorney’s Office. Once the warrants were approved, the U.S. Marshall’s taskforce adopted the case and was able to locate Moench out of state and arrest him for the submitted warrants.

Moench was transported to the Lee County Jail on August 5th, 2023.
