SUNCOAST: PRISON SENTENCE FOR DRUGS, BURGLARY, GRAND THEFT AND FLEEING TO ELUDE LAW ENFORCEMENT

Robert Paul Wolff, of Port Charlotte, was adjudicated guilty and sentenced to 17.5 years in prison for four cases involving drugs, burglary, grand theft, and fleeing to elude law

enforcement.

His crime spree happened over the course of four months in 2020. The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office investigated, leading to the identification and arrest of the defendant for each case.

Assistant State Attorney Scott Patterson prosecuted the cases.

The first crime was on March 16, 2020, the defendant was involved with the theft of three motorcycles from two residences in Charlotte County. He was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender to 17.5 years in prison followed by 5 years of probation, for one count of Burglary of a Dwelling.

The second crime happened a few days later, just after 2 a.m., on March 19, 2020. A Charlotte County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a motorcycle, with two people riding, pass by, with no working headlight. A deputy pulled behind the motorcycle to do a traffic stop and the motorcycle made a sharp turn, sending the motorcycle into a ditch. The driver then drove out of the ditch and picked up speed to get away from law enforcement.

The driver eventually drove onto a lawn of a residence and both riders fled. They were both apprehended quickly. One was caught trying to climb a fence on the property, another was hiding behind a tree. The defendant had thrown bags out of his hands as he ran. The bags were located and contained 55.7 grams of methamphetamine and .7 grams of cocaine. The defendant was sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender to 17.5 years in prison for one count of Trafficking in Amphetamines 28-200 grams with 5 years of probation to follow and given a $100,000 fine. He was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for Fleeing to Elude a Law

Enforcement Officer with Lights and Sirens.

In July 2020, the defendant refused to stop for law enforcement when a deputy was attempting to conduct a traffic stop. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison for Fleeing to Elude a Law Enforcement Officer with Lights and Sirens. He was also sentenced to 5 years in prison for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle for stealing a car from a residence that same month. The sentences are to run concurrently.
