Sarasota Police will swear in a four-year-old that has battled neuroblastoma most of his life, as an honorary member of the SPD this Monday

Sarasota-based Make-A-Wish Southern Florida will have a heartwarming wish enhancement that will take place Monday morning on the Suncoast. Andrew, a four-year-old that has battled neuroblastoma most of his life, will have a dream come true when he is sworn in as an honorary member of the Sarasota Police Department. The new officer will be treated like the VIP he is, with K-9 and SWAT team demonstrations just part of a morning of police activities Andrew and his family will be treated to.

The four-year-old from Egg Harbor Township, NJ – who has undergone surgery, numerous rounds of chemotherapy, and variety of other treatments for neuroblastoma – had a simple wish: to have a beach vacation in Florida. But when Make-A-Wish reps were planning the trip’s itinerary and knowing the youngster’s fascination with police that chase ‘bad guys,’ they decided to create a day unlike any other.

Thanks to the Sarasota Police Department, Andrew and his family will get a VIP experience that will be a “dream come to life” for them.

Andrew will be sworn in as an honorary officer, receiving a uniform and participating in a photo shoot. He’ll meet Sarasota PD Chief Rex Troche, get a behind-the-scenes tour of police

 

Vehicles, and be included in a demonstration involving K-9 dogs. The SWAT team will rappel from the building and Andrew will leave with police-themed gifts to cap off this one-of-a-kind

 

OPPORTUNITIES:     experience.  Andrew’s parents, Anhthu and Michael, can share perspective on the challenges faced with their ongoing battle against cancer and what having this day means to their family. Make-A-Wish and Sarasota PD representatives can comment on the wish enhancement and the nonprofit’s mission to provide a life-changing experience for every critically-ill child referred to them.
