At approximately 8:16 a.m. today, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Sarasota County School Board Police, responded to Riverview High School in reference to an internal alarm that was triggered at the school.

Sheriff’s deputies and school police, in an abundance of caution, locked the school down and established a perimeter around the school while each staff member was accounted for and all classrooms and surrounding areas were checked. Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit provided an overwatch of the school while the campus was locked down. Sheriff’s Office units are now clearing the scene. If we have additional information, we will update this post.
