Charlotte County Deputies and Fire & EMS staff arrived to the Trail Apartments fully ablaze early this morning.
Dispatch received the call from a motorist who witnessed flames exuding from the Trail Apartments located at 11021 Tamiami Trail.
When deputies arrived moments later, the building was fully engulfed in flames prohibiting responders from entering safely. The apartment was occupied by 4 people when the fire struck around 7:00 a.m. Two individuals are confirmed deceased with several others suffering from various levels of injuries who managed to escape the flames.
Fortunately, the fire was contained to a single apartment unit and was under control quickly.
We are working alongside the investigators with the State Fire Marshal’s Office to complete a comprehensive investigation into the fire, states Sheriff Bill Prummell. We pray for the family of those impacted by this horrific tragedy, Prummell adds.
