Sarasota County names new Director of Health and Human Services

Lynette Herbert has been named Sarasota County’s Director of Health and Human Services, bringing more than 20 years of professional experience spanning public health, human services, local government and the nonprofit sector to the role.

 

The Sarasota County Commission confirmed her appointment on Tuesday, Aug. 25, with an effective date of Aug. 26.

 

As director, Herbert will oversee the Sarasota County Health and Human Services department, which includes Human Services, Mosquito Management Services and Veterans Services.

 

Herbert has also been selected by the Florida Department of Health to serve as Sarasota County Health Officer and Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County. Chuck Henry, the Health and Human Services Director and DOH-Sarasota Health Officer, is set to retire Sept. 30.

 

According to Sarasota County Administrator Jonathan Lewis, Herbert’s experience in public health and human services, along with her understanding of our community and partnerships, brings valuable perspective to the role.

 

“Lynette brings a strong understanding of the services and partnerships that support the health and well-being of our community,” Lewis said. “Her leadership experience, knowledge of our organization and commitment to public service make her well suited to lead Health and Human Services and continue strengthening the important work the department does every day.”

 

Herbert most recently served as Assistant Director for Sarasota County Health and Human Services and the Florida Department of Health in Sarasota County, a position she has held since February 2022. She previously served six years as Public Health Services Manager.

 

Before joining the Florida Department of Health, Herbert spent nearly five years with Sarasota County Government as Contracted Human Services Supervisor and more than six years as Chief Financial Officer for a nonprofit organization. She earned a Master of Science in Applied Aging Sciences from the University of South Florida.
