Update on fatal accident involving a bicyclist on the Ringling Causeway

UPDATE: Our Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash that involved a bicyclist and vehicle on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m.
 
Officers responded to the 1100 block of John Ringling Causeway, westbound lanes, on the smaller bridges between the John Ringling Causeway Bridge and Plymouth Harbor, after a bicyclist was hit by a vehicle.
 
The bicyclist, 35-year-old woman from Sarasota, was riding in westbound lanes of John Ringling Causeway. A vehicle, driven by an 18-year-old man from Sarasota, was driving in the westbound lanes of John Ringling Causeway, when the vehicle collied with the bicyclist.
 
The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. The bicyclist died at the scene from her injuries.
 
The crash remains under investigation by the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit. Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call Officer Jason Frank at 941-263-6870.
