Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources will host its third annual World Ocean Day celebration from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at North Jetty Park in Nokomis.

This free, family-friendly event features interactive exhibits, educational presentations, hands-on activities, vendors and food trucks.

Participants can also join a beach cleanup beginning at 8 a.m., with hourly educational lectures starting at 8:30 a.m. No registration is required.

The event highlights the vital role oceans play in our ecosystem and encourages stewardship to help keep local waters healthy.

Held in alignment with World Ocean Day, an international initiative, the event is part of a global effort that includes more than 2,000 organizations in 180 countries working to promote healthy oceans and ecosystems.

“Every piece of trash removed from our beaches makes a difference,” said Events and Programming Supervisor Destiny Gonzalez. “We hope this event encourages people to get outside, stay active and be part of a larger global movement to protect our oceans and beaches.”
