Did you know Sarasota County ranks in the top 25 counties in Florida for traffic crashes resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists?

YIKES! That’s why we’re teaming up Florida Department of Transportation to reduce crashes involving pedestrians and bicyclists on the streets of Venice.

Starting this month, additional officers will be on patrol on U.S. 41 Bypass from Venice Avenue to Bird Bay Drive W to help educate the public. Officers will also be giving out warnings and citations to motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians who fail to obey Florida’s traffic safety laws when on the road.

✅MOSTORISTS: Obey speed limits, yield to pedestrians, come to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights, wear your seat belt, use your blinker, and put your phone down!
✅PEDESTRIANS: Cross in designated areas, look both ways before crossing, make eye contact with drivers, hold your children’s hands, and assist elderly adults!
✅BICYCLISTS: Stop at stop signs and red lights, ride with traffic in the designated bicycle or shared lane, no bicycles, e-bikes or e-motos allowed on sidewalks on Venice island, and use hand signals!

Be safe, be smart, and pay attention when on the road. Everyone’s life is worth it.
