Englewood Area Fire Control District

Tuesday morning, crews responded to a Waste Management recycling truck fire on Bunker Road in Rotonda. When a load catches fire inside a truck, the operator will dump the contents onto the roadway to prevent the entire vehicle from being lost.

Battalion 7 and the A-shift crew from Engine 74 and Engine 71 responded to the scene and applied water to the pile until it was fully extinguished and no longer smoking. After a fire like this, Waste Management sends a cleanup crew to clean up the mess.

โš ๏ธ Important Reminder: Lithium batteries should never be thrown in the trash or recycling. These batteries can easily ignite when damaged or compressed, posing a serious fire hazard. A lithium battery is the most likely cause of Tuesday morningโ€™s fire.

Please help keep our community and first responders safe by properly disposing of batteries at designated collection sites.
