A teenager was arrested after brandishing and firing a gun outside of a Waffle House restaurant late Saturday night.
Just after 11pm on Saturday, January 17, deputies responded to the Waffle House located at 810 Kings Highway in Port Charlotte in reference to a male who had discharged a firearm in the parking lot. The Major Crimes Unit was called out to conduct an investigation.
Detectives learned that a male, identified as Gavin Ohle (2/14/2008) had been in the restaurant and was being loud and vulgar. When employees asked him to leave, Ohle became irate and threw a chair. He continued to argue with staff as he exited the building with another male. At one point, the other male wrapped Ohle in a “bear hug” to restrain him. Ohle broke free and pulled a firearm from his waistband, firing it once. Nobody was struck by the gunshot, and Ohle left the premises.
Detectives continued their investigation on scene, and while doing so, learned that Ohle had been stabbed following an altercation at a residence on Ruston Circle in Englewood, suffering a non-life-threatening wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and released into law enforcement custody. The investigation into the stabbing incident is ongoing.
“When I look at this young man, the only word I can think of is ‘troubled’. I don’t know what’s happened in his life to lead him to this kind of behavior, but it absolutely will not be tolerated in Charlotte County. I am thankful that no one was hurt by his recklessness and appreciative of my team for their ongoing efforts to sort this whole mess out.”
Sheriff Bill Prummell
Ohle was arrested and ultimately transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice, charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon without Intent to Kill.
